Virginia, you suck sometimes. bye.

Most of the pictures we take out here are of us either smiling or having fun. The flora is beautiful and the fauna interesting.

And it’s true, for the majority of the time we find ourselves getting lost (figuratively) in our hikes and enjoying the time we have together, but at other times we’re in semi-crippling physical pain, homesick, scared of weird people and dangerous animals, arguing with each other, overwhelmed by how much further we have to go, sick of eating the same high calorie processed garbage every day, really really tired (I’ve taken close to 3,000,000 steps already; Jess has shorter legs…), and missing a sparkling cold beverage. Yeah, not fun, and at no time has this been more true than over our last days in Virginia. The “Virginia Blues” that other hikers talk about are very real, but thankfully we’re done here. Mason Dixon here we come.

Dear Virginia,

It’s not you, it’s us. There have been good moments, but this relationship wasn’t meant to last. There will be others. Just not us. Bye.

Kisses,

Turbo and Lighthouse

Love these updates! So honest! Every time it rains I think of you guys, and hope you’re dry and able to pack dry gear in the morning.

Haha and it’s been raining a lot! Thankfully when we were in DC for a quick break, a friend had oxyclean and a dehumidifier. Our stuff/we were really starting to stink.

John and Jess, love to see your updates. You are both amazing! Any day outdoors is still better than any day in the office 🙂 You will cherish this time for the rest of your lives.

Haha the majority of the days out here are still great. With that though has come a lot of hard work and the accumulation of some stressful experiences since the start in April. Apparently hiking south to north across the US isn’t that easy 🙂 That said, we had a good break in DC now, and we’re feeling recharged and ready for the second half of the trail. Wish us luck!

That was a dose of reality I did not expect. Love the candor though as everything has another side to it that we sometimes can (conveniently) forget. Still very much enjoying the updates!

Just wondering, how did you land on Turbo and Lighthouse? Any backstory that you can share for our amusement?
